The game of golf may have been invented in Scotland, but it was
perfected in Palm Beach County. There are more golf
courses here than anywhere in the country; approximately
145 public and private courses will test the mettle
of golfers of every playing ability. Two of the better
known are the Boca Raton Resort & Club course and
Emerald
Dunes in West Palm Beach. Nearly every "name"
golf course designer has left his mark somewhere in
Palm Beach County. There are courses designed by Jack
Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Tom Fazio, Carl Litten, Joe
Lee and others.
The fact that the Professional Golf Association is
headquartered at PGA National brings the level of
golf in the county up another notch. The County hosts
world-renowned pros for major tournaments, and accommodates
amateur golfers. Golf as a spectator sport is also
popular in the County. Over 2,000 professional golfers
play in tournaments here each year, including the
PGA Senior's Club. Palm Beach County features many
public and semi-private courses. For those who like
to golf where they live, there are many private, residential
golf course communities here. And several country
clubs offer golf memberships to non-residents. There
are more than 22 courses throughout Boca Raton: 16
private, 2 semi-private, 1 executive, and 3 public.

Lots of information!
More than 1,100 tennis courts can be found throughout
the Palm Beaches, along with excellent instructional
facilities and complexes. Public and private facilities
throughout the county host tournaments, clinics, and
lessons for players of every age and skill level,
and many are lighted for night play. One of the area's
premier professional tennis events is the Virginia
Slims Tournament, hosted by the Delray Beach Tennis
Center, which draws many international players. Boca
Raton / Delray Beach has approximately 25 tennis clubs,
including those that are part of golf and country
clubs.
The
US Tennis Association (USTA) has a Florida Section
office in Pompano Beach and its website includes local
tennis news, district locations and contacts, local
league information on schedules, rankings, and membership.
